Lisbeth Mulcahy Weavings
Lisbeth Mulcahy, who is originally from Denmark, has been living in Chorca Dhuibhne, The Dingle Peninsula, with her Irish husband Louis since 1975. This is also the year she started weaving under the tutelage of American weaver Joanne Hayes.
Following an intensive course in Sweden in weaving and textile theory in 1980, she developed her business to the point where she opened her present workshop and shop in the Centre of Dingle town in 1986. Today Lisbeth Mulcahy is one of Ireland's best known designer/weavers and tapestry artists.Siopa na bhFíodóirí is the combined studio and retail outlet of Lisbeth Mulcahy , one of Ireland's best known designer / weavers and tapestry artists.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday throughout the year and, in summer, evenings and Sundays as well. Lisbeth designs all the woven goods on sale in the shop, where she employs one or two other weavers to make all the wall hangings on display, while her scarves, throws, and table linen are made by a friend of hers, a commercial commission weaver. She, herself, makes the unique tapestries.
Scarves: We use only the finest and softest of yarns, straight from the best producers. Fine Merino Lambswool, extra soft Lambswool/Polyamide, and lustrous silk from Italy. Smooth Alpaca from Peru. Pure Irish Linen and Cotton from Belfast.
Table Linen: Lisbeth Mulcahy's range of table linen is woven in pure Irish linen and cotton from Belfast, the Traditional centre of Irish linen.
Wall Hangings: The wall hangings are woven in 100% wool on linen in Siopa na bhFíodóirí in Dingle. Designed by Lisbeth Mulcahy like all our other woven goods, they form a coherent range of 10 designs, which can be chosen either singly or in pairs or groups, to enhance your decor.
Throws: Our luxurious throws are woven in smooth Alpaca from Peru or soft lambswool/Polyamide (80%/20%) from Italy, in colours to complement the wall hangings.
